Bed & Breakfast

Frith Lodge is a very special Bed and Breakfast ideally located if you are walking the Coast to Coast, Pennine Way, Herriot Way or Pennine Journey long-distance routes. Set in a stunning location in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with breathtaking views from every window.

This 300-year-old Swaledale farmhouse, which is adjacent to our home, has been lovingly restored and refurbished. With five en suite bedrooms, a comfortable lounge to relax in and a boot room for cleaning and drying wet clothing and boots.

The track up to Frith Lodge is only accessible by 4×4 or on foot (collection from the roadside can be arranged for those driving to us). Whichever way you choose to arrive, you will receive a genuinely warm welcome and experience a real sense of getting away from it all in this fabulous remote location.

If you’re not on a long-distance quest and just want peace, quiet and an amazing base for exploring this fantastic part of the Yorkshire Dales, Frith Lodge is perfectly located in idyllic isolation, with many circular walks to take right from the door.

Neil, Karen and Jess really look forward to welcoming you soon.

Karen’s long awaited book is due to be published 21st April 2026

‘Coast to Coast and Halfway Between’ – by Karen Skeel

When Karen set off to walk Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, she expected blisters, rain and the odd patch of bog – not a complete rerouting of her life. Somewhere between St Bees and Robin Hood’s Bay, the path led her and her partner Neil to a derelict farmhouse above Keld, the halfway point of the walk. What followed was an unexpected new life, running one of the C2C’s most remote and well-loved B&Bs.

Told with warmth and dry humour, this memoir weaves together long-distance walking, renovation chaos, village life and the highs and horrors of hospitality – and the joy of finding home in the most unlikely of places.
